Recognizing Early Warning Signs of Wear:

Generally, your brake pads will be the first part to experience wear and tear that requires replacement. Some warning signs that it's time to give your brake pads a look and/or replace them include sounds like clicking, grinding, or squeaking. Sometimes these noises can have innocent causes, like having a pebble stuck between the brake pad and disc, but it's better to be safe than sorry, so if you're unsure, get it checked out! Some vehicles have electronic brake wear sensors or anti-lock brake systems (ABS), so sometimes you'll be warned by an illuminated dashboard light. Additionally, worm brake pads can sometimes feel spongy when you press on the brake pedal. This can indicate wear but it can also indicate a need to replace brake fluid.

When to Get Your Brakes Checked:

If you feel, see, or hear any of the above warning signs, it's a good time to get your brakes checked—it just might be time to replace the pads. Otherwise, following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance guidelines allows you to stay on top of your vehicle's brake maintenance schedule.
