Hoffman Honda Maintenance Tips: Tires

Tire Treads, Rotations, & Replacements—What, Why, & When

Your tires are important—we don’t have to tell you that—but do you know what your tire treads are, how to check them, and what to do if you notice uneven or excessive wear and tear? We’ll be doing a quick rundown for you right here, so let’s dive in.

How to Check Your Tire Treads for Excess or Uneven Wear:

Your tire treads give you traction, but wear and tear is expected. If you’re looking to check your tire treads’ depth for uneven wear, it’s actually pretty easy to do at home. Measure the depth of the tread in a few different places on the same tire; if the measurements are all different, that indicates uneven wear and you should look into having your tires rotated. If the wear and tear is too profound or too uneven to correct, you may need to replace your set of tires entirely. You can trust us at Hoffman Honda for parts and service if that’s the case!

If you’d like to check at home whether your tires are too worn, try the penny trick! Insert a penny with Lincoln’s head upside down and facing you, so you can see him. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, that means your tread has worn quite low and it’s not just time to rotate, but replace your tires. Driving on bald or badly worn tires can be dangerous, so take your tire treads seriously and don’t put off rotations or replacements! When the time comes, our Service Center can help you find the right tires for your Honda model, so you can get back to your daily life with the confidence of quality, well-tread tires beneath you.
